Streaming services, cinemas and cafe chains are among the companies upping prices for members this year.

Soaring inflation is fuelling price rises, as official figures this morning revealed that it has jumped to 5.5%, the highest level since March 1992.

We explain which subscription costs are increasing in 2022.

Disney +

Disney has already implemented a price increase but many UK customers are only just feeling the impact.

It announced in February last year that it was hiking the price of the service.

Annual customers have seen their bills go up from £59.99 to £79.90 a year.

Monthly subscribers started paying the higher price after August 23, 2021.

But annual subscribers didn’t have to pay the higher rate until their next annual bill.

Those whose bills are up for renewal in February and March have been contacted by Disney reminding them about the new rate for this year.

Many took out a subscription around this time of year, as Disney first launched in the UK in March 2020.

Sky

The firm said this morning that the average customer will pay an additional £3.60 a month from April.

That means bills will increase by £43 a year for many households.

The cost of Sky’s Signature TV package will jump by £1 a month to £27.

Its cinema deal will jump from £11 to £12 a month, and BT Sport is also rising by £1 to £28.

Odeon

Odeon is adding £2 to the monthly cost of a cinema subscription from April 1.

A Limitless membership is currently £14.99 – including £2 for access to West End screens – but will rise to £16.99.

It allows you to see as many films as often as you like at the cinema, without paying extra.

The cinema chain blamed the rise on VAT going back to 20% as well as rising costs.

“This will enable us to continue to invest in our service and provide the greatest range of possible films for you to enjoy,” it said in an email to customers.

Pret

Coffee chain Pret a Manager is raising the price of its hot drinks subscription by £5 a month.

Customers will now pay £25 a month for up to five coffees a day – a 25% increase.

New subscribers already have to pay the higher price and existing customers will be expected for fork out from March 16.

Amazon Prime

Amazon hasn’t confirmed any price increase in the UK yet, but is expected to this year.

The e-commerce giant has already announced that the cost of its Prime service will increase for US subscribers.

Annual subscriptions will jump from $119 to $139, while monthly fees will rise from $12.99 to $14.99.

Currently, Amazon customers in the UK pay £7.99 a month for a Prime membership or £79 a year.

That gets you access to its streaming service as well as other perks such as free next day delivery on many products.
