KINDER has issued an urgent recall of some chocolate products in the run up to Easter due to salmonella risks.

Ferrero, which makes the popular sweet treats, has warned customers not to eat several items including Kinder Surprise eggs over food poisoning fears.

The chocolates have been recalled due to the possible presence of salmonella.

The bacteria can cause food poisoning, with symptoms including fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

It is thought that 63 people, mostly young children, have become infected with salmonella in an outbreak linked to Kinder Surprise eggs.

Ferrero issued its first warning on April 2 before extending the recall to more Kinder chocolates including its Egg Hunt kits.

Which Kinder products have been recalled?

Kinder Surprise, mini eggs and an egg hunt kit are among the products that are affected by the urgent warning.

Here’s the full list of items that have been recalled:

  • Kinder Surprise
    Pack size 20g and 20g x 3
    Best before: All dates up to and including 07 October 2022
  • Kinder Surprise
    Pack size 100g
    Best before: All dates from 20 April 2022 up to and including 21 August 2022
  • Kinder Mini eggs
    Pack size 75g
    Best before: All dates from 20 April 2022 up to and including 21 August 2022
  • Kinder Egg Hunt Kit
    Pack size 150g
    Best before: All dates from 20 April 2022 up to and including 21 August 2022
  • Kinder Schokobons
    Pack size 200g
    Best before All dates from 20 April 2022 up to and including 21 August 2022

Ferrero has also issued advice to customers to help them check if they’ve bought one of the products.

You should look to see if the chocolate has a best before date that is affected by the recall.

Here’s where you can find the best before dates:

  • Kinder Surprise 20g and Kinder Surprise 20g x3 – on the side of the 20g and the base of the 20g x 3 pack
  • Kinder Surprise 100g – back of pack
  • Kinder Mini eggs 75g – back of pack
  • Kinder Egg Hunt Kit lS0g- on the base of the pack
  • Kinder Schokobons 200g- back of pack

What are my consumer rights?

If you’ve purchased one of the affected Kinder products, do not eat it.
