SAINSBURY’S is the latest supermarket to shake up its loyalty scheme with new discounts for Nectar card members.
It comes hot on the heels of changes to Tesco Clubcard and Boots Advantage card offers.
Last month shoppers were furious when Tesco revealed that from June it will be cutting the maximum value of Clubcard rewards for the second time in five years.
Its popular triple points offer will soon be cut to just double points. And Boots is also cutting back the number of Advantage points you earn per pound from May, but at the same time it’s launching lots more discounts.
With so many schemes on the market and so much change, how can you make the most of your points?
Our consumer team reveals all the tricks to bag free points and get the best discounts…

ICELAND AND MORE
Top up your Iceland Bonus prepay card with £20 and get £1 free.
ONE of the most generous loyalty schemes is Iceland’s Bonus card but it works very differently to the others.
It’s a prepayment card and every time you add £20 to it you get a £1 top-up, which is a 5 per cent boost.
At Asda, shoppers who are part of its Rewards scheme can earn money back when they buy certain Star products
Normally this is 10 per cent of the price, which goes into a “cashpot” to spend on future shops.
But you can boost your pot with Super star products – for example get 50p back on a £2 2L bottle of Diet Coke.
At Morrisons, shoppers get personalised digital coupons through the MyMorrisons app.
Similarly, MyWaitrose members receive exclusive discounts rather than loyalty points.
Cardholders can get a free hot drink when they bring a reusable cup and buy something in store.
Plus they can get 20 per cent off selected fish on Fridays and meat on Saturdays.
Marks and Spencer’s Sparks members also get personalised offers.
CLUBCARD TRICKS
Reward: One point earned per £1 spent
Value: Up to 3p per point until June, then 2p per point
SHOPPERS were in uproar when Tesco announced it would be cutting the maximum value you can get when swapping Clubcard vouchers for credit with certain brands, including Pizza Express, Hotels.com, Legoland and more.
From June 14, customers will no longer be able to exchange vouchers for triple their face value – instead they will be worth only double.
Normally when you cash in your Clubcard vouchers for codes with Tesco’s Rewards partners they’re only valid for six months, but until midnight on June 13, they will be valid for a full year.
Get extra points by using the code on the back of your receipt and filling out a survey at tescoviews.com or sign up at shopperthoughts.com to earn even more.
As well as earning points, scan your Clubcard for discounts on more than 8,000 products with Clubcard Prices, which saves the average customer £350 a year, according to Tesco.
FILL YOUR BOOTS
Reward: Four points earned per £1 spent until May, then three points
Value: 1p per point
BOOTS Advantage Card shoppers will earn three points per £1 in May – down from four.
But it is boosting the number of items discounted for cardholders under its Price Advantage offers and giving 10 per cent off 6,000 own-brand products.
Shoppers will still be able to earn eight points per £1 on baby items by joining Boots’ Parenting Club, while over 60s can also earn eight points per £1 on own-brand products.
Plus get 500 points when you take five empty toiletry bottles to certain branches and spend £10 there.
SUPERDRUG SAVINGS
Reward: One point earned per £1 spent
Value: 1p per point
WITH Superdrug’s Health and Beauty card you need to rack up 100 points before you can spend them.
Download the app for special bonus offers. Cardholders also get lower prices on certain products.
For example, an Oral-B Pro 3 3500 pink electric toothbrush with travel case is £39.99 down from £90 for members.
