SHOPS won’t all officially open for another week – but big chains are offering a raft of top deals for delivery and click and collect.
Stores that are allowed to be open, such as DIY and garden centres, have been attracting customers in record numbers with special offers.
It is estimated we’ll spend £1.4billion this Easter on getting our gardens in shape to welcome friends and family for Rule of Six gatherings – and doing up our homes ahead of being allowed visitors indoors from May 17.
Easter normally gives shops, pubs and restaurants a big boost. But none of them can open, even partially, in England until April 12.
The Centre for Economics and Business Research predicts this will see extra spending in DIY and garden centres. The CEBR said: “This Easter will test the patience of retailers, while garden centres and DIY stores are set to benefit from spending on home improvements.
“Compared with Easter 2020, we estimate spending on DIY and gardening will be up by £290million this weekend, reaching £1.4billion.”
