With these simple tricks, you can have their playthings looking as good as new in a jiffy.

INK REMOVAL: Not only does hand sanitiser zap germs, it is a dream at getting rid of pen scrawled over toys and lots of other things.

Add a little product to a clean cloth and wipe over the stain. It should melt away before your eyes — leaving a shiny, clean toy.

NEW ’DO FOR DOLLS: If your little treasure has let their doll’s hair become matted and dirty, you can easily get it sleek and shiny again with fabric conditioner.

Massage a little liquid through the toy’s tresses until soaked, then leave in a bowl for at least an hour.

While the product is still in the hair, brush through with a wide-tooth comb, or a fine-tooth comb if it’s a smaller doll such as Barbie.

Then rinse out the conditioner with warm water.

Pat dry with a towel — don’t use a blowdryer as it can damage the hair.

PLUSH TOYS: Check the label on soft toys as you can often pop them in the washing machine for a freshen up.

For those you can’t, try vacuuming out dust and using a soapy cloth to help remove dirt.

You can also kill bugs such as dust mites on soft toys by putting them in a freezer overnight.

If the stuffing has come out, repad with scrunched-up socks. A few stitches should close any holes.

GET RID OF YELLOWING: White plastic can turn yellow with age, but baking soda can help restore its brilliance.

Create a paste with the cupboard staple by mixing it with a little water.

Use a cloth to spread this on the area you want to treat.

Leave to sit on the plastic for a few hours before wiping off with a clean, damp cloth.
