The destination has at least five golf clubs, he said. Two, Valle Escondido and Las Lomas de la Dehesa, are in the suburb of Lo Barnechea, less than an hour’s drive to the ski resorts La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado. Another, Los Leones, is in the suburb of Las Condes, 90 minutes from the resorts; two more are in the Chicureo suburb and also a 90-minute drive to the resorts.

It is usually possible to play golf year-round, and the skiing season begins in early June and lasts through September (August is the prime month).

Convenient access to these sports aside, the Santiago region is also affordable, Mr. White said, with home prices beginning at $400,000. “It has a very international second-home community,” he said; vacation home buyers hail from around the world, including the United States.

Michael Valdes, the president of eXp Realty, said that the benefits of owning a property in Chile included its stable economy, strong infrastructure, friendly locals, and fantastic food and wine. “You have people who treat you like family and can enjoy great gastronomy at prices that are surprisingly low,” he said. “Your money can go far in Chile.”

In the Canadian province of Alberta, Banff and Canmore are neighboring towns that have an abundance of possibilities for dual skiing and golfing.

But which town to look at depends on what you are looking for, said Dan McGuire, a real estate adviser with Engel & Völkers Banff Canmore: “Since the town of Banff is within Banff National Park, only full-time residents can live in homes there,” he said. “Canmore, on the other hand, is outside the park, and anyone can buy there.”

The area is notably scenic, with mountain views, alpine lakes, piercing blue rivers and wildlife (including grizzly bears), Mr. McGuire said, and has numerous golf courses and places to ski.
