IT’S that time of year when spiders start coming out of hiding – and into our homes.

And many people dislike the eight-legged creepy-crawlies.

Four low-budget tricks to get rid of spiders in your home

So I’ve tracked down some budget buys — and home-spun tricks using household ingredients — to keep them at bay.

WHAT A CATCH: Arm yourself with the Zero In Spider Catcher from Aldi for £8.99, which is a couple of pounds cheaper than most of the others I’ve seen online.

It has a 60cm-long arm to help you reach into awkward and high-up spaces to catch spiders.

Plus it doesn’t harm the spider so you can release it somewhere a safe distance away with a clear conscience.

CONKER YOUR FEARS: I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to walk past a shiny conker in autumn without picking it up and putting it in my pocket.

Well now you have a legitimate reason to do so.

Some people say they help deter spiders, so why not scatter a few in your drawers and give it a try?

SPIDEY-SCENTS: Essential oils like lavender and peppermint are great for repelling spiders. Plus they make your home smell wonderful, so it’s a win-win.

Use a few drops in your fabric softener or on your pillow cases to have the scent spread around the house. Or place a handful of dried lavender into a sachet in your drawers.

Holland & Barrett has a buy-one-get-one-half-price deal on Miaroma 10ml essential oils.

So you could get one peppermint and one lavender for £7.50 total compared with £10 if you bought them separately at their normal price of £5 each. That’s a £2.50 saving.

A-PEELING IDEA: Another fresh scent humans like but that deters spiders and insects is citrus.

Tie dried lemon peels in cheesecloth or muslin and place into drawers or cupboards.
