AFTER a lot of wear, favourite clothes can start to look tired. But you don’t need to replace your trusty items.

Try these tricks to get your outfits back to their best . . .

TO DYE FOR: Washing can fade clothes after time. But a quick re-dye works wonders. If you have stained light clothing, colouring can also cover marks, making items wearable again.

Dylon machine dye is easy to use — you just pop it in a cycle along with the items you want to colour. The dye costs from £6 on Amazon and there is a large range of shades to choose from.

BYE BYE BOBBLES: Everyday wear, as well as washing and drying, can cause some fabrics to pill — with small bobbles forming on the surface.

You can buy a special fabric shaver — Dunelm has one one for £7.99. Or I’ve found a blunt disposable razor works just as well. Just run the blade gently over the surface and it will start to easily collect the bobbles.

Remove fluff from the razor as it starts to build up. Turn clothes inside out when washing to help prevent future pilling.

SMELL FRESH: Tops and workout clothing can sometimes start to smell of sweat — even after washing.

To banish the pong, grab a cup of white vinegar and the same amount of bicarbonate of soda and mix with cold water in the sink.

The vinegar also tackles yellow sweat marks on clothing. Soak clothing for between 30 minutes and an hour in the mixture before putting it through a normal wash cycle.

And fabric softener is best avoided when washing sweaty clothes because it can leave a coating on clothes that traps bacteria and smells, according to sports brand Nike.

BUTTON UP: Missing or damaged buttons can make clothing look tatty. Replace like-for-like or jazz up a shirt or cardi by picking out some fresh buttons.

There are loads of styles to choose from on Amazon. You can buy packs of ten from £4.
