A STUNNING four-bed detached Victorian house has gone on the market for £1million – but there’s a huge catch.

The property in leafy Forest Hill, south-east of the capital, covers three storeys and boasts plenty of space.

As well as the light and airy bedrooms, the lucky new owner will find reception, dining and utility rooms, and even a cellar.

But they’ll need to do some serious grafting before moving the kids in.

That’s because the house has been completely gutted inside.

Very deep pockets will be required to transform the address into a habitable family home.

On first glance, all appears well outside the property, which boasts large sash windows and a pretty red brick arch over the front door.

However, those who look more closely will notice greenery around the house appears to be a little overgrown, while steps to the door are in need of a good clean.

TOTAL DISREPAIR

And the true scale of the work needed is immediately obvious when visitors cross the threshold.

Ceilings have been torn down, exposing wooden rafters, while carpets have been ripped up and fireplaces partly destroyed.

Walls have been stripped back to the brick in some places, while a toilet and freestanding bath have been abandoned in a bedroom.

Agents at Kinleigh, Folkard and Hayward say the property in Ewelme Road was once very grand – and could be so again with the right owner.

They called the sale “a rare opportunity to acquire a four-bedroom, detached, period house in need of full renovation” – and said the home is a “blank canvas”.

‘BLANK CANVAS’

It’s not the only gorgeous period property currently on sale that’s in need of plenty of work.

One three-bed home just a short walk from King’s Cross St Pancras is in a similar condition inside.

The house, which is also on the market for £1million, is in a state of total disrepair.

Agents at Daniel Watney admit “extensive refurbishment” is needed.

However, they say the home, which was built in around 1850, will be an amazing purchase for an ambitious buyer.

Meanwhile, a third home with a £1m price tag has been completely neglected over the years.

Floors of the end-of-terrace property, just off Brick Lane in the East End, are lined with dirty and uneven tiles, while the ceiling has started to sag and the walls are bare.

Agents at Winkworth say the house is “in need of complete modernisation” – but that it’s a “fantastic opportunity”.
