FORTNITE is one of the world’s most popular games, but it has been missing from the Apple Store for a number of years.

This is due to a 2020 payment dispute between Apple and the creator of Fortnite, Epic Games.

Apple disagreed with Epic Games adding its own payment system, which prevented Apple from taking a cut of the profits.

A lawsuit ensued with the courts deciding in Apple’s favour in nine out of ten counts.

Since the case, Fortnite has been unavailable on Apple platforms including iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers.

Fortnite is also a popular mobile game, with a number of players using Android phones as their platform of choice.

Players using their iPhones or other Apple products can still play Fortnite, but only through a third-party service such as Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Epic Games founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney, tweeted saying that Fortnite would be returning to Apple platforms in 2023.

In the last hours of 2022 he wrote: “Next year on iOS!”

The tweet also included a picture from Fortnite with fireworks spelling out 2023.

Substantial details are still missing at the moment. We don’t know when Fortnite will return, or how payment will be managed.

However, it’s a big step for the two companies, and a welcome announcement for Apple users.

Fortnite has been bringing some big changes lately, with Chapter 4 launching in the middle of last month.

Despite this, players on last-gen consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, have experienced stuttering issues where the game freezes for a short time.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently ruled that Fortnite has been using “dark patterns” to dupe players into unwanted purchases.

It also expressed concerns over how the game handles children’s privacy.

The company was fined $500million (£400million) with $245million (£200million) being allocated to refunding players.
