It means bargain hunters were unable to nab trainers and top sports brands this morning, on the biggest shopping day of the year.

The firm took to social media to confirm the news.

It said: “Happy Black Friday everyone! our website is currently down, we are working hard to get our site back up and running, please hang tight!”

Shoppers took to Twitter to complain that the site was down.

One said: “Footasylum website broke lol.”

Another asked: “Hey guys soo your website crashed because of Black Friday… when is it going to get back up?”

The problems appear to have started around 8.30am, when fans asked on social media: “Website down?”

Another questioned: “Is your site down or frozen? Really struggling to add to basket or even access the site.”

Around 10am the site was back up and running.

Still, it was a disappointment to consumers who were up early to get started on their Black Friday shopping.

Earlier this week vouchers codes offering 10% off at the site were available.

And this morning cashback site TopCashback was offering up to 15% off purchases at the retailer.

A newsletter sent out by the retailer this morning advertised Nike Womens Air Max 2090 trainers for £69.99 down from £129.99.

Other deals mentioned include Adidas Originals NMD R1 trainers at £69.99 instead of the usual £109.99 and a tenner off Adidas Womens Hyperglam leggings, now £24.99.

The Sun has contacted Footasylum for comment.

The company is owned by JD Sports, another high street favourite for sports gear.

Its website is still working, so anyone desperate to buy sportswear or trainers this morning could look there instead.

JD Sports was among the retailers to launch some of its Black Friday deals early this year.

It reduced Nike apparel by up to 50% including £35 off Nike React trainers.
