Here are some easy ways to trim the costs of watching your mate say, “I do.”  

RENT A DRESS: One in three bridesmaids pay for their own dress, says Fizzbox, at an average cost of £120.

BUDGET TRAVEL: Getting to the big day works out at around £70 a person on average, according to Fizzbox.

Plan ahead and book train or plane tickets to get the cheapest prices.

Going by coach is often one of the cheapest ways to get across the UK. And do the trip with friends to make it more fun.

DIY GLAM: Bridesmaids pay £70 on average to get their hair and make-up done for the wedding.

Jump on YouTube or TikTok and watch a couple of tutorials to find a look you can recreate yourself, and practise ahead of time.

Or hunt out a local trainee hairdresser who will charge less and usually work under supervision of a qualified superior.

CHEAP STAYS: Overnight accommodation really bumps up the cost of a wedding invitation. Sharing with friends is one way to keep the budget in check.

Local campsites can be another wallet-friendly option in warmer months.

It is also worth comparing the cost of getting a taxi home. Even over long distances, sharing a cab can work out cheaper than paying for a room.

GIFTS TO CHERISH: Homemade gifts cut costs and add a personal touch.

You could print and frame a photo from the location of the couple’s first date or another special place. Or try printing and framing a map of the area where they live.
