We reveal five ways you can take advantage of big savings on Amazon

The popular retailer is the go-to for many shoppers because of its range of goods, prices and quick delivery.

Whether you are on the hunt for a book, an item of clothing or even some slightly obscure gadget, you will likely find it on the Amazon website.

While most people may know about Amazon Prime and the main benefits of being a Prime member, there are some other lesser-known ways shoppers can save some cash.

However, remember that even if you spot a good deal, it is still always worth having a look around to see what other retailers are offering.

You can use price comparison sites such as PriceSpy and Idealo if you want to price check across multiple retailers.

Meanwhile, we have listed five little-known ways you can get big discounts when shopping at Amazon.

Amazon Warehouse

The Amazon Warehouse hub is where returned goods are relisted to be resold with further reductions.

This is a great idea for shoppers who don’t mind buying something pre-loved, but that’s still in great condition.

Items are graded from “acceptable” to “like new” and are usually priced cheaper than if you were to purchase the item brand new.

Sometimes the items come unpackaged, but this information will be included in the product description, so there are no unwanted surprises when the item arrives.

A range of products are sold in the Amazon warehouse and you can find everything from kitchen appliances to laptops and lawnmowers.

All the products are categorized into product areas to make it easier to find what you are looking for.

Remember that because the items are discounted they are usually fast-moving, so don’t hang around if you spot a deal as it won’t be around forever.

Also, if you buy something from Amazon’s Warehouse and you are unsatisfied with it for any reason, you can still return it as normal as you would with any other item.

We spotted a used Russell Hobbs steam iron selling for £16.82 in the Amazon Warehouse, which was labelled as “like new”.

The same model was listed on the Russell Hobbs website for £24.99 reduced from its original price of £49.99.

Also, this year Amazon slashed its warehouse prices even more by giving shoppers an extra 20% off during its Spring sale, so keep an eye out for additional discounts.

Amazon Outlet

The Amazon Outlet has hundreds of items that are surplus to requirements and being sold off at a substantial discount.

Unlike the warehouse, these items are brand new goods but just ones that Amazon or its partners want to move quickly.

All of the deals are for a limited time and you can search by category, price and discount.

For instance, if you have up to £100 to spend but are looking for an item that is discounted at 25% or more, you can narrow your search down to that.

As with any retailer, if you are looking to get a discount on surplus stock the best time to bag a bargain is after a big holiday or celebration such as Easter and Christmas.

This is when most retailers want to get rid of their seasonal stock and make way for the new.

We had a look at the “overstock deals” on the Amazon Outlet to see what kind of bargains were to be had.

The deal that stood out at the time we checked was a smart projector with Android TV streaming apps that had five-star customer reviews.

The home theatre gadget had a whopping 65% off and was reduced from £415 to just £145, a saving of £270.

What do the categories mean when shopping on Amazon Warehouse

YOU can get great bargains on Amazon Warehouse’s website but some items might not be brand new.

Here we explain what what the different categories mean when you are shopping on the Amazon Warehouse.

Used – Like New

  • If your item has been given this rating, it means it is in “perfect working condition”, Amazon says.
  • The item works as it should and no accessories are missing
  • The packaging may be damaged slightly

Used – Very Good

  • This means your item has not been used very much and fully functions, Amazon says
  • The item may have minor imperfections and may arrive in damaged packaging
  • Some non-essential accessories might be missing, but these will be outlined in the item’s description online

Used – Good

  • Your item may have already been used moderately but is fully functioning
  • It may show signs of wear and tear but should be minor, and the item’s packaging may be damaged
  • The item may be missing some valuable accessories, and it might not work until you’ve purchased those accessories separately

Used – Acceptable

  • The item will have “clear signs of usage”, Amazon says, but still works
  • It may show signs of previous wear and tear, such as scratches, dents and worn corners or edges
  • It could come in damaged packaging and could be missing valuable accessories – which means it may not work until these parts are purchased separately

Amazon Renewed

The Amazon Renewed section is a great way to bag big discounts on previously owned products and handy for tech items such as phones, tablets and games consoles.

All of the items in the renewed section are pre-owned and refurbished items that have been professionally inspected and tested to meet quality standards.

As with the Amazon Warehouse, renewed items are also graded by their condition and are grouped into four categories, premium, excellent, good and acceptable.

You can also buy with confidence as all products on Amazon Renewed (with the exception of Amazon devices) are backed by the Amazon Renewed Guarantee.

This means that you are eligible for a replacement or refund within one year of receiving the product if it does not work as expected.

At the time we checked we spotted a great deal on some Apple AirPods that were retailing for £69 down from £129, giving a saving of £60.

There was also a renewed Samsung Galaxy smartphone for £79 down from £179, giving a whopping saving of £100.

Amazon has a special tab marked “Today’s Deals” where shoppers can find different limited-time offers each day.

You can search by department, price and discount and some of the offers are “recommended” to you based on your purchase history and views.

There are some huge discounts to be had on the deals of the day, and we spotted some offers that were almost 50% off when we checked.

On the day we checked one Russell Hobbs jug blender had a whopping 46% off and was reduced from £89.99 to £48.90 in the sale.

There was also a selection of Fire Kids tablets with up to 40% off, which meant a reduction from £149 to £89.

As well as deal of the day, customers should also remember when the big sales are happening with Amazon as this is when you can get the best discounts.

The Spring sale has already been and gone, but if you missed that one you can still be in with a chance of some Prime Day bargains.
