FREE TRIAL: Audiobook service Audible offers new customers a free trial for 30 days.

You get one book a month with membership, so that’s one free book for nothing.

After that it’s £7.99 a month, so don’t forget to cancel if you don’t want to pay.

MAX MEMBERSHIP: As well as one credit a month, there are lots of free titles and podcasts included in an Audible membership.

Type “included in your membership” in the search bar, and then filter for children’s books.

Free titles on Audible currently include Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, which is available until August 4, as well as Winnie-The-Pooh, The Wind In The Willows and Horrid Henry.

SPEND CREDITS WISELY: Be savvy and use your credits to get longer books.

Katy by Jacqueline Wilson is 11 hours 31 minutes, while Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is two hours 22 minutes.

Most read in Money

Both cost £7.99 if you’ve used up your monthly credit.

Also look for collections, which can be three books together.

Books one to three of the How To Train Your Dragon series can be bought using one credit.

LISTENING LIBRARIES: Many libraries offer digital services, such as the BorrowBox and Libby apps, which allow you to play audiobooks on your phone or tablet.

If you’re after CDs for the car, check to see if your library has any suitable collections (The Famous Five by Enid Blyton is perfect for a road trip).

MORE FREEBIES: Download free kids’ audiobooks from Spotify or librivox.org. To use Spotify you need to sign up.

Titles include The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by L. Frank Baum and Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie.
