He said Brits should never have their bills held to ransom by foreign tyrants like Mad Vlad Putin again.

Sir Keir said: “The British people are sick and tired of rocketing energy bills and our energy system being exposed to dictators. They want long-term solutions to cut bills for good.

“That is why I am proud to announce that a central mission of my Labour Government will be to turn the UK into a clean energy superpower.”

Sir Keir is in Liverpool for Labour’s annual party conference.

The 2030 clean energy mission is the first major announcement of the event.

Under the plan offshore wind in the UK would be quadrupled to 55GW.

Solar power would more than triple to over 50GW and onshore wind capacity would more than double to 35GW.

Overall, the clean energy revolution is estimated by Labour to save £93 billion.

It would also create more than 200,000 direct jobs and up to 300,000 indirect jobs.

Sir Keir said that the UK would reserve some fossil fuel energy for use in blackouts or emergencies where clean power is failing.
