AFTER parts of the UK were hit by freezing temperatures, icy roads and snow earlier today, cold weather payments might be set to follow in some postcodes.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) gives the money to low-income Brits whenever there’s a cold spell lasting longer than seven days.
The payments are worth £25, although you can receive multiple payments if you experience several periods of freezing temps.
The cold weather payment scheme runs through winter, from November 1 until March 31.
Eligible Brits usually get the cash paid directly into their bank account within 14 working days.
Households are eligible for the payments if they receive any of the following:

The DWP explained that the reference will appear in bank accounts as the relevant National Insurance number followed by “DWP CWP” – if you live in England or Wales.
If you live in Northern Ireland it appears as “SSA CWP”.
But, its important to note that the weather needs to be freezing for seven consecutive days, so you won’t be entitled to the extra money if it was zero degrees or below on just one day.
It’s worth keeping an eye on your local weather to make sure you don’t miss out if it is cold enough for the required period.
You can check if your area has had a cold weather payment by entering your postcode into the government’s tool.
