ANDROID users are being urged to download an app that detects whether someone is using a tracker to stalk you.

The app is made by none other than Apple, Android’s arch-rival.

Tracker Detect is designed to reveal if a creep is misusing an AirTag or other location tracking kit to keep an eye on your movements.

Apple’s AirTags are meant to help people find stuff like their keys if they’re lost.

But there have been multiple reports of stalkers exploiting the tech for the wrong reasons.

In the US, thieves have apparently been using them to follow high-end cars before stealing them.

When installed, the app lets you scan for nearby tracking devices that have been separated from their owners.

If the app comes across any, you can play a sound to reveal where it’s hiding.

It will then give instructions on how to work out who the AirTag belongs to and how to disable it if needed.

But unlike the iOS app, it won’t keep scanning for new trackers in the background, you’ll have to do it manually yourself each time.

However, Android users don’t require an Apple account to take advantage.

Apple told CNET it is “raising the bar on privacy”.

“Tracker Detect gives Android users the ability to scan for an AirTag or supported Find My enabled item trackers that might be traveling with them without their knowledge,” the firm said.

Extending it to Android users was first discussed by the company in June amid an outcry of concern about safety.

The app doesn’t just detect Apple’s AirTags either, they can also find other compatible tracking devices.
