POP SENSATION Grimes has revealed aspirations to move to Mars, even if it requires “manual labour until death”.

In a Q&A video posted online last week, the Canadian singer said she hopes to fly to the Red Planet after age 50 in order to help set up a colony there.

That means the 32-year-old, real name Claire Boucher, may have less than two decades left on Earth before her one-way trip.

Her chances of success are aided by the fact that she’s dating billionaire Elon Musk, whose company SpaceX plans to set up a Martian civilisation.

During a livestream last Thursday, Grimes admitted that life would be tough at the extraterrestrial outpost.

“Manual labor until death most likely,” she wrote in all caps, “but hopefully that can change.”

During the Q&A, streamed to Grimes’ official YouTube channel, the Oblivion singer discussed a wide range of topics, including motherhood and her desire to upload her brain to an artificial body in future.

Musk and Grimes made their debut at the Met Gala in May 2018 and welcomed their first baby in May 2020.

They named their child X Æ A-12, but were forced to change the moniker to X Æ A-Xii, as the California state does not allow symbols in a name.

Asked whether she was enjoying parenting, Grimes wrote: “Surprisingly more than I thought.”

She added: “I don’t like the word parenting tho [sic]”.

Discussing progress on her new album, the LA resident said: “Finishing vocals and mixes and maybe trying to make another song.”

Grimes appears to be recovering well after a run-in with coronavirus last month.

The electropop star admitted to fans that she was “weirdly enjoying” battling Covid in an Instagram Stories post on January 10.

She made reference to flu medication DayQuil, hinting she’d been suffering from one or both of a fever and cough – key symptoms of the virus.

What is SpaceX?

Here’s what you need to know…

SpaceX is a cash-flushed rocket company that wants to take man to Mars.

It was set up by eccentric billionaire Elon Musk in 2002 and is based in Hawthorne, California.

SpaceX’s first aim was to build rockets that could autonomously land back on Earth and be re-used.

Musk hoped the technology would make flying and operating space flights far cheaper.

SpaceX currently uses its reusable rockets to fly cargo to the International Space Station for Nasa.

It also carries satellites and other space tech into orbit for various international governments and companies.

The company took astronauts up to the ISS for the first time in 2020.

Other future missions involve carrying tourists and astronauts to the Moon.

Musk has repeatedly said he believes humanity must colonise Mars to save itself from extinction.

He plans to get a SpaceX rocket to the Red Planet sometime in the 2030s.

Grimes posted a photo of a little girl looking sad, followed by the words: “Finally got COVID but weirdly enjoying the DayQuil fever dream 2021.”

Meanwhile, aside from illness, it is a happy time for the family.

According to the Bloomberg billionaires index, Musk overtook Amazon boss Jeff Bezos on January 8 to become the richest person in the world.

Grimes also delighted fans by releasing an updated version of her album Miss Anthropocene on New Year’s Day.

It follows the release of the original version, in February 2020, and the Rave Edition features more club tracks.

In other news, Musk claimed over the weekend to have overseen the creation of a cyborg monkey that can play video games with its mind.

SpaceX is converting oil rigs into floating spaceports for journeys to the Moon and Mars.

And, Musk and Grimes have officially named their baby X AE A-XII Musk after being forced to axe their first choice.
