Plus, the rising cost of energy bills is forcing people to think of alternatives to keep warm.

The cold weather means many of us are having to dry clothes inside, but if we don’t have the heating on, they could take a lot longer to dry.

On top of that, drying clothes inside could lead to mould and bacteria growth.

This is caused when there is a high level of moisture in the air in your home.

But this item from Dunelm could be a cheaper alternative households.

The heated airer with wings costs £40 and Dunelm said it costs just 7p per hour to run – this is based on the current energy price cap.

It comes with an on off switch, and can carry up to 10kg of washing.

Shoppers were pleased with the product, with one saying: “This item has saved my heating bills and helped to get washing dry during cold wet winter months.

“It’s very light and easy to put up takes a large amount of laundry and is cheap to run could not do without it now.”

While another said: “It’s brilliant cost effective, does the job well and heats the apartment at the same time!

“What’s not to love! My daughter is very happy no more damp smelling or wet clothes hanging around for days .

“Highly recommended,” the added.

But some shoppers did think it was a little bulky, while another said they would have preferred one that comes with a timer.

Another reviewer also said that they felt it didn’t dry clothes quick enough.

Its currently in stock online but you could also pop down to your local Dunelm to see if it is there.

Of course, stock may vary from store to store, and so can price.

Do also shop around for a better deal as we may have missed something – though this is the cheapest one we could find.

For example, if you wanted a heated airer with a timer, you would have to pay a lot more.

Lakeland is currently selling one for £129.99.

But if you were after one similar to the Dunelm airer, Robert Dyas is selling one for £69.99.

How much does it cost to run a heated airer?

Heated clothes airers are like traditional ones, but you plug them in.

The bars of the dryer heat up, shortening the time it takes to dry the clothes hanging on it.

You can buy covers for some as well, which speeds up the time it takes to dry your clothes.

The cost of running a drier depends on the wattage.

Generally, how much an appliance costs to run depends on how much you use it, what model you have and how much energy you normally use.

But usually the higher the wattage, the more it will cost to run.

A 200w airer uses 0.3 kWh – a kilowatt hour is the unit of energy used for billing your electricity.

Based on the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG), running a typical heated airer for an hour costs 16p.

So, if you had it on for eight hours, it would cost £1.28.

But this will go up in April, when the EPG will be replaced by the Energy Price Cap.

At this point, is expected that the average energy bill per year will increase to £3,000.

The cost of running an airer will depend of the model you’ve got.

How you can reduce your bill

There are a number of ways you can reduce your bills for drying clothes.

The most obvious way to save money is to hang them out instead of using a tumble dryer.

It won’t cost you a penny, but with temperatures dipping as autumn hits, keep in mind that getting your load dry could take longer.

You could also save money on washing your clothes too by reducing the temperature you wash them at.
