DRIVERS can get 7p off a litre of fuel at Morrisons for a limited time.

The discount comes just as petrol prices hit a record high of 148p a litre amid the cost of living crisis.

Morrisons is offering 7p off a litre of fuel to customers who spend over £40 in-store

That means the discount is the same as around 5% off the cost of the average litre of fuel.

But every little helps as Brits grapple with soaring costs from energy, to food prices, on top of the sky-high fuel costs too.

Morrisons is stepping in to help with the cost of getting from A to B, by giving customers money off their fuel bill.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer and marketing officer at Morrisons, said: “We know that the cost of living increases are really beginning to bite for everyone in the UK and we want to help our customers by saving them money on one of their biggest expenses. “

The catch is, you have to spend a certain amount in-store first.

You’ll have to fork out on at least £40 worth of shopping at a Morrisons store before you can claim the 7p off your fuel.

It’s perfect if you’re tying the two chores into one though, while you splash out on the groceries, you’ll be rewarded at the till with a coupon for the money off petrol.

You can redeem the saving at any Morrisons petrol station (apart from Morrisons Daily petrol stations) from today all the way through to February 27.

But that means there’s only 10 days before the petrol is back to being only available at full price.

While that doesn’t give shoppers long to load their trolley with the minimum spend and load their fuel tank with juice, it doesn’t mean drivers should panic buy the fuel available from the supermarket’s forecourts.

In the autumn last year, drivers panic bought fuel in their masses after fears of shortages swept the nation.

Drivers don’t need to worry now, as Morrisons isn’t going to run out of the discounted fuel any time soon, you just have to meet the £40 spend criteria to bag it for yourself.

Morrisons has 339 filling stations across the UK, and you can use its store locator tool to find where your closest is.

Other ways to slash petrol costs

Despite Morrisons’ inviting discount, you might find that another garage closer to you has cheaper prices or similar.

With that in mind, you shouldn’t trek all the way to the supermarket just because it’s got the money off, as you might make a better saving elsewhere.

You don’t want to drive for miles to get fuel, so if you have a choice of petrol station in your area, it pays to shop around.

The website petrolprices.com allows you to do 20 free searches on petrol stations near you to see who has the best rates.

There are also ways you can reduce your spending on fuel by conserving what you do have already, so you’re not in such a rush to fill your tank up again.

For example, sharing lifts could help you use your car less and save on petrol costs.

You can also make a tank of fuel last longer by making sure your tyres are at the right pressure, and not being heavy handed with the accelator.
