A driving instructor has shared a genius trick to help learner drivers nail parallel parking on the first try.

The tricky maneouvre can be daunting for first-time drivers, and may even throw them off their driving test.

But one instructor has shared his method to master the technique with ease, so you can slide into a parking spot without fuss.

Under the TikTok account @thecompletetheorytestkit, the instructor explained that all beginner drivers need to understand are ‘reference points’.

These are essential for those learning how to drive, but once you get the hang of it you won’t need to rely on them as much.

‘It makes it a lot easier if you have clear reference points so you end up in a good position first time,’ he said.

In the video, there is also a disclaimer that reference points will differ depending on the type of car you have, which drivers should keep in mind.

First of all, you need to drive next to the parked vehicle, pausing around a metre away either in line with the car, or just in front of it

Next, you need to pull the handbrake up and select reverse gear, but before you carry on you need to make sure there are no nearby hazards.

When all is clear, you can start to slowly reverse until you spot the first reference point, which is when the back of the other vehicle is half way across your back window, according to the instructor.

Once you’ve checked your right blind spot you can start to steer left, the instructor demonstrated how simple the technique by turning the wheel just once.

The instructor then continues to reverse, while keeping an eye out for any danger, until the second reference point.

Once you can no longer see the curb in your left mirror, you can steer twice to the right.

Then, when the vehicle is parallel with the curb, you can steer once to the left, and continue to reverse straight until you’re in the correct position.

The third and final reference point in parallel parking is when your car is parallel with the curb, you can then make sure your car is in the correct position and secure it

The useful trick has racked up 5000 likes since it was first posted and has been viewed nearly 127,000 times.

Many TikTokers flocked to the comments, hailing the simplicity of the technique, one said: ‘Brilliant video.’

While another claimed: ‘This is how my driving instructor taught me.’

Others were still unsure on the trick, one writing: ‘I hate this manoeuvre, practically it’s not that easy.’

The TikToker shares other trips and tricks to the account, along with another driving instructor.

The pair have a ‘how to’ series on necessary driving techniques such as hill starts and emergency stops.

As well as sharing practical advice, they also post theory tips and advise anxious drivers on the best ways to stay calm during their driving test
