In an exclusive shoot for Essence, the couple revealed their heart-warming love story of going from classmates to becoming best friends and forever lovers.
Speaking about their relationship, Empire actress Hazel Renee told Essence: “We had an overall vision to reflect where we currently are in our lives. We feel very elevated from where we were years ago. We are more connected and in tune with one another and wanted our shoot to reflect our style and natural boss energy.”

Some fairytale stories of real-life romance start in an ordinary corner of a classroom and turn into a beautiful chapter of life!
For Hazel Renee and NBA superstar Draymond Green, it all started when they were theater classmates at Michigan State University – but it would take years for them to finally start their chapter of romance.
Renee told Essence: “We were in the same theater class and both athletes. Naturally, we gravitated towards one another for group projects because we were already familiar with each other.”
However, when Draymond Green was drafted to the NBA in 2012 and Renee focused on her acting career, nothing happened until much later, when they met again in Los Angeles for a “first date.”
Renee recalled: “We hadn’t seen each other in a very long time so we hung out all day, talked, and caught up. It was really casual but also reflective of our relationship. We really are best friends.

Renee and Green have a daughter together, Cash, plus daughter Olive and son Draymond Jr from respective previous relationships.
Speaking of their future, Renee gushed: “I’m looking forward to celebrating our love and this new chapter in our lives with the people who have been down with us from the very start.
“To have the support of family and friends is priceless.”
