People have just found out about Uber’s rating breakdown setting, as they say they wish they ‘never found this’.

The ride-hailing app has the ratings system so potential drivers can see how well-behaved you are, and ensures that you get picked up quickly by equally highly-rated drivers.

After every Uber ride you take, the driver can anonymously rate you between 1 and 5 stars – so the better your ride to your destination, the better your score.

And if you are curious about your average Uber rating, you can go onto the app, or log into your online account, to find out your breakdown.

However, while you can view your ratings and a breakdown of the stars you have earned – including the 1 star ratings – you currently cannot view a more thorough breakdown of why you have been given the stars.

Emma Gribbon, who goes by Emmatainment on TikTok, shared a video explaining that there is a ‘way you can find out how many one star reviews you have received from Uber drivers.’

After explaining the steps, she said that she has ‘never met a person who doesn’t have at least three one stars’.

Social media users have also been left shocked at the hack, saying they will be ‘rethinking my life decisions the rest of the day’.

One person said: ‘I feel like Uber drivers should explain why they’re giving us a bad rating like we do if we rate them bad lol.’

Another wrote: ‘I have four 1 star reviews like WHAT WAS THE REASON?! I literally just sit back and mind my business.’

And a third jokingly put: ‘I feel like my friends have contributed to some of those 1 stars.’

The average rating for Uber riders is 4.89 out of 5, and the rating is based on an average of your last 500 trips.

But there are things you can do to get a lower rating, such as keeping a driver waiting at the pick-up spot for a while, as this might prevent them from taking another passenger.

Another thing drivers look out for is safety, so not wearing a seatbelt might lose you some stars.

Also not turning up to your ride at all is no-no, and will probably cost you.

Here’s how to access your ride ratings:

  1. Open Uber app
  2. Go to your account, which can be found on bottom right hand side
  3. Scroll down to ‘Settings’
  4. There, you will find the ‘Privacy’ tab if you scroll down. Click on it
  5. Then click on ‘Privacy centre’
  6. Under your data and privacy at Uber, click on the first pin which is the ‘would you like to see a summary of how you use Uber?’ image. You need to select ‘See summary’
  7. Once you are in this tab, you need to scroll down to the ‘Ratings’ section, and click on ‘View my ratings’
  8. Here you will see a breakdown of your ride ratings

How can I improve my rating?

If you are worried about your score and how this reflects on you as a rider, there are thing you can do to boost it.

Uber has shared some tips on what you can do to boost your score, including taking your rubbish and other belongings with you once the ride is over.

They have also advised that you should put your safety first and buckle up for the ride.

Uber have said that studies show unbuckled passengers in the back seat can put the driver at greater risk of injury in a crash.

Being ready and on time for your trip is valuable, and ensures for a smoother pickup.

Most importantly, treating everyone and everything with respect will give you a good rating, Uber says.

As outlined in their Community Guidelines, they want riders and drivers to feel safe, respectful, and positive, adding that you should always treat your driver and their vehicle as you would want to be treated.

They added that drivers have consistently cited that door slams are a reason why they deduct stars.
