Deutsche Telekom AG is speeding up its efforts to retake a majority stake in T-Mobile US Inc. through a complex transaction with SoftBank Group Corp.

The German telecommunications giant has been looking to beef up its U.S. ownership since its T-Mobile unit’s 2020 merger with Sprint Corp., which SoftBank previously controlled. T-Mobile has been rapidly adding customers in the lucrative U.S. market, though it recently suffered a reputational setback after it disclosed a massive leak of customer data.
