DELIVEROO and Uber Eats have SHUT DOWN in areas across the UK with Storm Eunice sparking delivery chaos.

Britain is being battered by killer 122mph winds – stronger than the gusts of the Great Storm of 1987.

Storm Eunice has already downed power lines, uprooted trees and closed schools on its path of destruction, and there is more to come.

With Brits being told to stay at home today because of weather warnings many may have planned to tuck into a takeaway this Friday.

But food delivery companies Deliveroo and Uber Eats have now shut down in parts of the country due to the extreme weather.

A message on the Deliveroo app reads: “We’ll be back delivering again when it is safe to do so.”

They add: “In the interest of keeping riders safe, our service is not available at the moment due to a red weather warning.”

While Uber Eats say: “For courier safety, our delivery service is currently unavailable due to a weather alert.”

Many on social media have praised the companies for the sensible decision.

One person wrote: “I am glad Deliveroo have cancelled any orders today due to the storm, so the delivery guys don’t have to work through it.”

Another said: “Giving props to @Deliveroo for keeping riders safe.”

While a third joked: “I’d feel like a massive k***head if I ordered Deliveroo in this.”

KEEPING RIDERS SAFE

A Deliveroo spokesperson said: “In the interest of keeping riders safe, Deliveroo’s service is not available in London and the South East or Wales and areas of the South West at the moment due to the red weather warning and adverse conditions.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and remain in close contact with our partners and riders to let them know when we plan to reopen these areas.”

The Sun has approached Uber Eats for comment and asked which locations are affected and will update when we hear back.

We’ve also asked Just Eat if the storm is affecting deliveries and will update when we hear back.

On Twitter Just Eat has responded to some users saying that it has stopped delivery services in all affected areas and will not restart them “until it is safe to do so”.

Unfortunately, if the service is unavailable in your area, you’ll just have to do without.

Takeaway delivery services are not an essential service, like with broadband or electricity, so you won’t get any compensation if they are not delivering when you want them to.

Delivery services are sometimes unavailable in normal conditions too, for instance if the restaurant you’re getting food from is too busy or there are not enough drivers available in your area.

DELIVERIES SUSPENDED

Other service in the UK are also affected by the severe stormy weather.

Royal Mail has suspended deliveries and closed sorting offices in areas where a red weather warning is in place.

It’s also reviewing services in areas with amber warnings in place.

You can check Royal Mail’s service on a dedicated page of its website, and sign up to updates for your local area.

DHL said in an update on its website that parcel deliveries in some areas are affected.

The status update said: “Parts of the UK are impacted by heavy snowfall and Storm Eunice.

“As a result, parcels for delivery in Scotland, Wales and the South West may incur a 24 hour delay.

“As Storm Eunice moves across the UK, further disruption to services may occur. All efforts will be made to deliver any delayed parcels as the weather improves.”

Here’s all the compensation you might be able to claim after Storm Eunice including insurance, power outages and flight delays.
