Deleted WhatsApp? Clever iMessage tips and tricks including GIFs, pinned texts and location tracking

WHATSAPP has been making headlines recently as some people have rejected their new privacy policies and turned to other apps.

If you’re one of those people and have turned to iMessage as you’re chatting platform of choice then you may want to check out the tips and tricks below.

GIFs on iMessage

Sending a GIF on iMessage is actually very simple and it’s a great way to have fun conversations with your friends.

To send one of the moving pictures you first need to open your chat of choice and click on the pink magnifying glass icon near the keyboard.

You should see lots of GIFs come up already.

Type in the search box to find a relevant GIF and then once selected you just send by tapping the usual send arrow in the right hand corner.

How to share your location with someone on iMessage

Within the Messages app, head to the thread of the person you want to send your location to.

Tap on the contact name at the top of the thread and hit the information icon.

Select “Share My Location”.

We’re not entirely sure why you’d want to scrawl a message on your phone, but it’s pretty fun to play around with all the same.

To handwrite your texts rather than tap away at your keyboard, open a thread on iMessage.

If you’re on an iPhone, tilt it so it’s horizontal. On an iPad, simply open the keyboard.

Under the backspace on your Apple keyboard, there should be a squiggly line. Tap it to handwrite your message.

How to pin your favourite texts on iMessage

You may want to pin your favourite texts and chats to the top of iMessage.

This will give you faster access to them.

First, open iMessage and swipe to the left on your chat of choice.

You should notice that a pin icon appears.

Click it and that chat will move straight to the top of your messages and will stand out more than the others.

You can pin up to six message threads and they will appear in circle icons.

To unpin a chat just hold the circle down and then click the unpin icon.

How to block someone from seeing read receipts on iMessage

Like WhatsApp, Apple iMessage has a handy feature that means your contact can see when you’ve read their messages.

However, the tool is a little annoying if you want to read what someone has said in secret.

Fortunately, you can turn off read receipts for certain contacts in iMessage by heading to your joint message thread.

Tap on the contact name at the top of the thread, hit the information icon and then toggle off “send read receipts”.
