IT’S time to delete apps that may be ruining your phone – and potentially even harvesting your info.

Security experts have revealed the checks to make, and say you should follow the ‘one a day’ rule.

You’ve probably downloaded dozens – and potentially hundreds – of apps since getting your iPhone or Android.

But how many do you actually use? If you’ve got plenty of unused apps, that’s a big problem.

A new memo from security giant Kaspersky warns users to delete these old apps.

“You probably have apps on your smartphone that you haven’t used in over a year,” the Kaspersky security memo explained.

“Or maybe even ones you’ve never opened at all.

“Not only do they take up your device’s memory, but they can also slowly consume internet traffic and battery power.

“And, most importantly, they clog up your interface and may continue to collect data about your smartphone – and you.”

It can seem like a giant task to identify all of your unused apps – and it’s even more annoying to delete them all.

To get around this, Kaspersky recommends deleting one unusued app each day.

If you follow the “one a day” rule, then you could end up free from unused apps within a month.

How to delete iPhone apps

To delete an app, first find it on your Home Screen or inside the App Library.

If you’re removing it from the Home Screen, touch and hold on the icon then tap Remove App.

Now Choose Delete App to delete it from iPhone.

If you choose Remove from Home Screen, this won’t delete the app completely.

To delete an app from the App Library, touch and hold on it, then tap Delete App and choose Delete.

You can redownload apps at no cost if you change your mind.

How to delete Android apps

Deleting an app on Android is also very simple.

Just go into the Google Play Store, then tap on the profile icon in the top-right.

Next go to Manage Apps and Devices > Manage.

Then simply tap on the name of the app that you want to delete, and choose Uninstall.

If you think you’ve made a mistake, you can redownload it later – and you won’t need to pay for it again.
