Thousands have just weeks to claim £250

Thousands of households have just weeks left to apply for £250 in free cash to help with the cost of living.

Islington Council, in London, has launched a £1million hardship fund for struggling residents.

The payments are being made to two groups, totalling 3,800 households.

The first is made up of more than 1,300 households on benefits who have not already received any cost of living payments, including tenants in council housing and those privately renting.

These households have already been identified by Islington Council and the £250 will be paid directly to them.

The second group is working households with an income that only just lifts them over the threshold making them eligible for benefits or any other financial support.

In total, 2,500 grants are available to anyone who meets the criteria, but you have to apply for the help.

The households that need to apply for the £250 grant have until April 30.

After this date, the scheme will close, or when the 2,500 grants have been allocated.
