The owner of the Colonial Pipeline said Wednesday that it has begun to restart operations after shutting off the conduit following a cyberattack last week.

Colonial Pipeline Co. said it initiated the restart of pipeline operations around 5 p.m. ET, but cautioned that it would take several days for deliveries to return to normal.

The shutdown of the pipeline, the primary fuel conduit serving the East Coast, spurred gasoline shortages in the Southeastern and mid-Atlantic states.

“Colonial will move as much gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel as is safely possible and will continue to do so until markets return to normal,” the company said in a written statement.
