When should you put your Christmas tree up?

The experts at Christmas Tree World have given their take at when to put up your Christmas tree.

They explained that traditional Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas.

This means the ideal date can be anywhere from November 27 to December 3.

As it happens, this year it’s Sunday December 3, so you can spend your weekend decking the halls.

When Christmas was cancelled

A wave of ecclesiastical reform at the beginning of the 17th century altered how Christmas was observed in Europe, per the History Channel.

Christmas was cancelled as part of Oliver Cromwell and his Puritan armies’ campaign to purge England of decadence after seizing power in 1645.

Charles II was reinstated to the throne in response to popular demand, and the well-liked festival followed.

The English separatists known as the pilgrims, who immigrated to America in 1620, were even more orthodox Puritans than Cromwell.

Coca-Cola teams up with Neighbourly

Coca-Cola’s Christmas truck returns this year, and the festive tour will be delivering an important message.

The brand has teamed up with Neighbourly to help deliver acts of kindness to those who need it most.

Neighbourly provides crucial support to local communities across the UK.

This year, Coca-Cola and Neighbourly will be supporting the local communities across the cities the Coca-Cola Truck Tour will be visiting through a volunteering scheme and donation drive.

Those looking to donate to a local community supported by Coca-Cola and the Neighbourly Foundation can do so online, or by using the QR code available at the Truck Tour.

What can you do at the Christmas truck stops?

There will be multiple activities for people to participate in at the events.

Coca-Cola will offer a range of interactive experiences for visitors to immerse themselves in festive fun.

Guests will be welcomed by a walk-in, snow-filled bauble, inviting families to step into a winter wonderland for the perfect holiday snapshot.

Those attending the events will also have an opportunity to win a selection of prizes including meal-inspired rewards and recycled Christmas tree decorations.

Where does the term Christmas come from and what does it mean?

Most of us would assume it originates from the word Christ, as the whole idea of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

To a point that is the case – the word is a shortened form of “Christ’s mass”, or “Cristes Maesse” as it was first recorded in 1038.

This was followed by the term Cristes-messe in 1131, according to The Catholic Encyclopedia.

The term “Christ” – or Crīst as it originally read – comes from the Greek word Khrīstos, a translation of the Hebrew word Messiah, which means “anointed”.

The second part of Christmas – messe – is a version of the Latin word missa, the celebration of the Eucharist tradition of eating bread and drinking wine in memory of Jesus.

This is also called Holy Communion and the Lord’s Supper.
