DOING the ironing is boring enough without the thought of having to clean your iron too.

I asked Savers on Facebook for their smart ways to get it done quickly. Here is what they came up with . . .

Ironing is long and boring, so don't waste more time and use these tips to learn how to clean your gear quicker

CALL IN THE PARAS: Many of you rate using a humble paracetamol tablet when it comes to keeping your iron ship-shape.

Saver Carol Holme says: “I rub a paracetamol over the plate of a warm iron then turn up the heat and rub the iron over a damp cloth — mine always comes up clean. Obviously be careful!”

Sarah Hendry agrees, adding: “I also use paracetamol. Rub over the plate then wipe clean. It’s good for burn marks.”

Pick up 16 paracetamol tablets for just 35p at Tesco, instead of £1.65 for 16 Panadol tablets.

ANTI-BAC DOUBLE: If there’s one thing I have plenty of in my cupboard thanks to Covid, it’s anti-bacterial wipes.

So I can really get on board with Saver Linda Martin’s simple hack of using them all over her iron.

She says: “I use an antibacterial wipe. I had iron-on adhesive stuck to the bottom of my iron while doing appliques and it came up as good as new.”

SOUR POWER: Saver Missy Teresa says that she uses cheap cupboard staple vinegar to get her iron clean and I’ve seen bloggers say the same, including TikTokker @lauracleanaholic, who uses it to descale her iron.

Simply pour a capful or two into your steam iron and leave for ten minutes before using it.

If you’re all out, try a 750ml bottle of Stardrops White Vinegar Spray — it’s £1.45 at onlinepoundstore.co.uk but 79p at B&M.

FOR EXTRA OOMPH: You can buy special cleaners to get your iron spick and span too.

Saver Michelle Claire Somerville loves Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner, £5.99 at Lakeland — but I’ve seen the same product for as little as £4.18 with free postage on amazon.co.uk.
