The juvenile was arrested and charged under the juvenile laws with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of falsifying physical evidence, the justice department said.

He is accused of killing Kassandra Sweeney, 25, and her two sons Benjamin Sweeney, 4, and Mason Sweeney, 1, in Northfield on Aug. 3.

Each died from a single gunshot wound, according to medical examiner Dr. Jennie V. Duval.

All three were found dead inside a home on Aug 3 at about 11:30 a.m., according to authorities.

The age and identify of the child charged in the murders have not been released. A motive behind the killings is unclear.

Authorities had been investigating the killings since they happened, but did not share what evidence led to the arrest of the child.

Online obituaries said Kassandra Sweeney “was born to be a wife and mother.”

“Family was the center of Kass’s world. She spent every available moment making family memories whether it was with her husband and sons, at her parents’ house, with her sister, or with extended family,” the obituary said. She loved playing in the yard with her sons and celebrating holidays, especially Christmas.

Benjamin, the obituaries said, loved Play-Doh, dinosaurs and baking with his mom. Mason loved books, the Beach Boys and Baby Shark.

Their funerals are set to be held on Saturday.

Sean Sweeney, Kassandra’s husband and the boys’ father, said on Facebook that his family “will be forever loved and missed.”

“It is our job now to keep their memories alive..Kassandra Rae Sweeney Benjamin Michael Sweeney Mason Lee Sweeney,” he said, according to NBC Boston.
