IF YOUR iPhone is playing up you might want to try this critical check.

Little do most know, there’s a hidden indicator that could confirm your worst fears – here’s how to find it.

This sensor turns red if your device has been damaged by water, so it’s well worth checking out if you’ve recently spilt a drink and your phone’s being a bit buggy.

Most modern iPhones and iPads are kitted out with so-called Liquid Contact Indicators (LCI).

From the iPhone 5 onwards, this handy sensor can be found where the SIM card is stored.

If the sensor is white or silver that means your device has not suffered water damage.

Simply remove the SIM card tray and take a peek inside.

It might be hard to see, so Apple suggests using a lighted magnifying glass and angling the light to get a glimpse.

But a red signal is bad news.

And before you blame humidity and temperature, Apple has said those do not have an impact, so red really does mean liquid damage unfortunately.

Owners of older iPhones can check for the sensor within the headphone jack socket instead.

Apple has released a full list of devices and where you can find the sensor for each on their website.

It’s also worth noting, damage from liquid is not covered by Apple’s standard one year limited warranty either.

So you’ll have to foot the bill for repairs or a replacement yourself.

In other news, Apple has become the first company to hit a stock market valuation of $3trillion (£2.22trillion).

Popular Twitch creator Sliker has been banned from the platform after sharing nude imagery of fellow streamer Amouranth.

And internet users have been urged to check their online accounts against one of 2021’s worst cyber threats.
