CHRISTMAS wouldn’t be the same without a selection box to munch your way through while watching a film in the afternoon.

And supermarkets often have deals on these treats in the run-up to the festive season.

We’ve scoured the shelves to find the best price for some of the most popular versions right now.

But make sure to check in your local store – you never know when prices might change.

Comparison tool Trolley.co.uk is also a handy way to check the prices across all supermarkets in one go.

Before you splash out, you might want to think about the cost of buying each item separately.

Selection boxes can be good value, but sometimes they work out more expensive than buying each product by itself.

Aldi and Lidl were either out of the stock or don’t sell the below items, so they’re not included in the comparison.

Here are our other suggestions:

Cadbury Santa Chocolate Selection Carton (145g)

It’s the classic choice – a Cadbury selection box containing six popular chocolates: Fudge, Wispa, Dairy Milk, Double Decker, Dairy Milk buttons and a Crunchie.

In most supermarkets, this is currently selling for £2 or £1.50, but it’s only £1.25 in Asda.

There is also a smaller 89g version, which contains a Chomp, Freddo, Dairy Milk Buttons, Curly Wurly and a Fudge.

This is £1 in most supermarkets, but just 89p in Asda at the moment.

Be aware that some of the products, such as the chocolate buttons, are “treat size” versions, so not the full size.

Galaxy Christmas Collection Selection Box (244g)

This selection box is definitely one for lovers of Galaxy chocolate.

It contains two Ripples, plus four Galaxy bars: Smooth Milk, Cookie Crumble, Salted Caramel and Smooth Caramel.

It is selling for £3 in lots of supermarkets, although it’s £4 in Wilko.

But if you buy it in Tesco and have a Clubcard, you’ll only pay £2.

And Asda currently has it on offer for £1.50 – the cheapest we found.

Maltesers & Friends Christmas Selection Box (207g)

Maltesers fans can get this selection box for £1.50 at Asda

The Maltesers & Friends box contains one big bag of Maltesers, one small bag of Maltesers, Milky Way, Twix, Maltesers Reindeer, Maltesers Teasers bar, and Mars.

It’s £3 in most supermarkets, but costs £2 in Tesco with a Clubcard.

However, Asda comes out on top again, selling it for just £1.50.

Aero Festive Selection Box (360g)

You'll get four 90g Aero bars in its festive selection box

This is the most expensive selection box we compared, and the biggest.

You get four 90g Aero bars inside: chocolate, peppermint, white and orange.

At the moment it’s selling for £5 in Tesco, £4.50 in Iceland, and £4 in B&M, which was the cheapest we spotted.

But it has gone down to £2.50 in Tesco in early November in previous years, so it’s worth keeping an eye out in the next couple of weeks.

M&M’s & Friends Medium Selection Box (139g)

M&M fans should like this selection box over the festive period, but it's not the best value

Next up, the M&M’s box has Crispy M&M’s, Choco M&M’s, Peanut M&M’s, Twix and Mars inside.

The cheapest price we found was £2, and that was the price at Morrisons, Asda and Tesco.

By weight, this was the smallest selection box we compared, and not the cheapest, meaning it isn’t the best value.

But if you, or someone you love, is mad about M&M’s, this could be the one for you.

Skittles & Friends Selection Box (150.5g)

If you aren't a huge chocolate fan, you may want to try something different

The Skittles selection box is slightly different in that it’s not entirely chocolate based.

With Mars, Milky Way, two packets of Skittles Fruits, Skittles Sours, and two packets of Skittles Darkside, it is a good selection of sweets as well as a couple of small chocolate bars.

Like the M&M’s box, we found this for £2 in Morrisons, Asda and Tesco, which was the cheapest price at the moment.

Nestle Xmas Choco Box (216.3g)

Last but not least, chocolate fans may like a good selection of Nestle’s most popular bars for Christmas.

The box has a four-finger KitKat, Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles, Yorkie, KitKat Chunky, Aero Milk and Aero Peppermint.

It’s selling for £3 in most supermarkets, but Asda has it for sale for £1.50.
