Home secretary suggests next year’s review will lead to significant changes to how corporation is run
Next year’s review of the BBC charter will be “a very, very significant moment” for the corporation’s governance structures, Priti Patel has said, giving the clearest indication yet that ministers are considering potentially sweeping changes to how it is run.
Asked about the idea that some sort of independent editorial board could be imposed on the BBC in the wake of a damning report about its handling of a 1995 interview with Diana, Princess of Wales, the home secretary did not directly comment.
