TALKING about money might not be the most romantic activity on Valentine’s Day.
But if you put your heads together, you’ll find there are lots of ways to save as a couple. Here are just a few.
SHARING IS CARING: Don’t double up on TV contracts like Netflix, Now TV, Amazon Prime and others.
First work out which ones you really use and then share out the different subscriptions between the pair of you so you are not paying for any twice.
SAVE: £120 a year by cancelling one standard Netflix subscription
SWEET MUSIC: Share your love of music with Spotify Duo membership for £13.99 a month if you live together.
This compares to a total of £19.98 if you each pay for separate premium memberships.
You still have your own accounts and, if you are upgrading from separate memberships, you keep existing playlists.
SAVE: £71.88
LOVE TRAIN: Get a Two Together railcard for £30 a year and save a third on train fares when you travel together.
National Rail says cardholders typically save around £98 per year and the card can pay for itself within three journeys.
SAVE: £98
WE CAN WORK IT OUT: Make the most of guest passes that lots of gyms offer, to save on working out together.
PureGym, for example, offers core membership for £12.99 a month, but you could bring your partner with the Buddy Access bolt-on at £4 a month.
It could be a good plan so long as one of you is happy to go just once a week.
SAVE: £107.88 a year compared to two memberships
TWO BECOME ONE: Compare and switch insurance, TV, broadband, mobile or other qualifying products on comparethemarket.com to qualify for Meerkat Movies, giving you two for one on cinema tickets every Tuesday or Wednesday all year long.
SAVE: £162 if you see films twice a month, based on a typical ticket price of £6.75
- Prices correct at time of going to press. Deals subject to availability.
