TODAY is Chinese New Year and what better way to celebrate it at home than with a takeaway.
We spend an average of £451 a year on takeouts and Chinese cuisine is our top pick.
But if money is tight, here is how you can enjoy Asian-inspired food for less.
FAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT: If the budget does not stretch to a takeaway, Sainsbury’s Chinese selection bag for two is currently £7, down from £8.
At Tesco you can get a tasty meal for two for £5, reduced from £7.50 when you use your clubcard.
It contains two mains, egg fried rice, vegetable spring rolls and prawn crackers.
SAVE: £2.50 at Tesco
ALL THE SIDES: Reduce the cost of your takeaway by ordering the main dish only and shopping for the sides.
A bag of prawn crackers (80g) at Sainsbury’s is £1.20 but at Morrisons they are just 85p.
Plus, microwavable egg fried rice is just 35p at Aldi, whereas Uncle Ben’s version is 99p at Tesco.
SAVE: 64p at Aldi
START FROM SCRATCH: If you fancy cooking, I recommend the Goldfish Original Chinese Curry Sauce Concentrate, £2.50, down from £2.75 at Morrisons.
Simply add 100g of concentrate to 300ml hot water to make two servings.
Dissolve thoroughly, bring to the boil, stir and simmer.
Then add in any cooked meats or vegetables. Add rice.
SAVE: 25p
FUSION FARE: Iceland has combined two of our favourite takeouts.
Say hello to the Hoisin Duck woodfired pizza.
It is smothered in hoisin sauce and loaded with cooked shredded duck, mozzarella and leek for the ultimate Chinese-Italian fusion treat.
Get yours for £1.75.
Cheaper than paying £3 for the Good & Balanced Shredded Hoisin Duck & Noodles pizza at Asda.
SAVE: £1.25
