DUNELM shoppers can’t get enough of a cheap gadget which helps keep mould at bay.

Condensation can be a major issue over the colder months as warm air hits windows and creates moisture.

Left unchecked, it can lead to mould and cause health problems such as asthma attacks, skin rashes and allergic reactions.

But there are some easy and cheap ways to keep condensation at bay including by using squeegees.

The tools come with a blade, sometimes rubber, which can be used to flick excess water away from moist surfaces.

You don’t have to spend a fortune on them either.

A second said: “Budget item that does the job. Why pay more than you have to?”

A third added: “Exceptionally cheap but effective shower cleaner that removes all the water marks after a shower- we have now bought three.”

Shoppers can pick up one of the squeegees from their local Dunelm store for free via click and collect, or from £3.95 for delivery.

Nine hacks for heating your home, drying your clothes and preventing mould in winter

For click and collect, you have to enter your postcode or location on Dunelm’s website and it will tell you the nearest store you can pick up.

Of course, remember when buying anything like this to shop around to see if you can get a better price at a different retailer.

Websites like pricespy.co.uk let you compare prices on thousand of products.

Meanwhile, the Google Shopping/Product tab is useful for a quick check on how much retailers are selling a specific product for.

How to find top bargain deals

FINDING deals and offers can be tricky if you don’t know where to look.

Here’s a list of hacks you can use to become a bargain hunting pro and save on your shopping bill:

Join Facebook groupsExtreme Couponing and Bargains UK, Latest Deals and Reduce Your Supermarket Spend are all Facebook groups helping you reduce your spending and find good deals

Get following – Follow your favourite shops on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram and sign up to its newsletters to get the latest on any offers

Check hotukdeals – The deal-sharing website lists offers as they’re spotted by savvy shoppers

Use barcode scanners – Retailers such as B&M let shoppers scan the barcodes on its app to see if it’s actually cheaper than the price listed on the shelf

We had a quick check to see if you can get a squeegee for less than 80p, but couldn’t.

Ikea has one for £1 down from £1.75 while Morrisons, Asda and Tesco have them for £1 as well.

How else to tackle condensation

If you don’t want to fork out for a squeegee, you can get rid of condensation without spending a penny via the “stoffluften” method.

The German term literally translates to “shock ventilation” and means opening windows to let stale air out and fresh, colder air in.

Matan Korin, vice president of sales at Ecoline Windows, previously told The Sun: “[Stoffluften] sees several windows being opened in a house for no more than three minutes.

“This will create a draft, swapping most of the warm humid air inside the house with cold air from outside.”

If you’ve got extractor fans, make sure they’re turned on as this will increase ventilation throughout your home as well.

They’re usually found in the kitchen and bathroom where the most hot air is produced.

Dehumidifiers can be useful at getting rid of excess moisture in the air too, and don’t always have to be costly.

They work by drawing air from the room over a cold coil, which condenses into water and falls into a tank which you can empty.

We spotted one on Dunelm’s website for £49 while Boots has one for £40.

How much your dehumidifier will cost to run depends on which specific one you buy.

John Lewis has a 151 watt model which costs around 4p an hour to run while Argos has a 350 watt model that costs around 10p an hour to run.

You can buy mini dehumidifiers from as little as £1 too if you want to spend even less – and there’s no ongoing cost as they don’t plug in.

How to remove mould

Bleach is usually all you need if you don’t want to fork out on cleaning sprays and paints.

You should mix four parts of water with one part bleach.

Then, using a stiff brush, bucket of water with clothes and another for drying, you can apply the solution, scrub off the mould, then rinse and wipe it down.
