Cadbury Snaps have officially been discontinued

What were Cadbury Snaps?

Cadbury Snaps were a popular go-to sweet treat for many chocolate fans – especially during Christmas celebrations.

Launched in 2004, the thin and crisp chocolate-covered snaps came in a variety of flavours, including orange, milk chocolate, hazelnut, caramel crunch, and mint.

When and why were Cadbury Snaps discontinued?

Fans were saddened to see the Christmas favourite Cadbury Snaps removed from shelves in 2010.

They had been a sweet staple in many households, with hungry Brits expressing their love for the snack.

One fan of the discounted treat took to social media and wrote: ”We used to have them Cadbury Snaps at Christmas. Oh my god they were beautiful.”

Meanwhile, a second said: “Omg remember Cadbury chocolate snaps they only come out at Christmas.”

Despite being removed from shelves a while a go, a number of baffled shoppers were still searching for the chocolate-covered snaps, with fans even urging the company to “please bring these back”.

However, Cadbury was quick to respond to fans – and they were met with a crushing reply.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Cadbury simply said: “Hey, Cadbury Snaps have been discontinued, however we still have lots of other chocolatey treats to try.”

The company did not provide an exact reason as to why Cadbury Snaps had been discontinued and taken off shelves.

What is similar to Cadbury Snaps?

Thankfully, alternatives of the popular product are still available, with chocolate lovers pointing out similar options at stores including Aldi and Costco.

At Aldi, the alternative chocolate snacks are named Choceur Waves and can be purchased in a variety of flavours, including milk chocolate, orange, salted caramel, and mint.

Shoppers hoping to bag a dupe of the sweet treat can do so at Aldi for just £1.75 per box.

Meanwhile the Costco offerings are simply called Belgian Chocolate Thins – and they are a hit among fans of the original snaps.

The packaging is almost identical, and four boxes in a salted caramel flavour can be bought for just £8.49.

What other Cadbury chocolates have been discontinued?

As well as Cadbury Snaps, a number of other beloved sweets have disappeared from UK shelves over the years, but the nostalgia remains.

One ionic Cadbury chocolate that Brit’s are desperate to bring back is the Cadbury Dream.

One of the most beloved confections in British history, the Cadbury Dream was an all-white chocolate form of the Dairy Milk, similar to Nestle’s Milky Bar.

It took the nation by storm in 2002 before being discontinued.

There was a relaunch later in 2019 under the name Cadbury White, much to the delight of chocolate lovers.

Also on the list of lost sweet treats is the Cadbury’s Aztec chocolate.

Launched in 1967, the Aztec was an exotic blend of chocolate, nougatine and caramel, dubbed Cadbury’s answer to the Mars Bar.

Unfortunately for fans, it was scrapped in 1978 and its dark purple packaging vanished from shelves.

Other discontinued products include, Cadbury Fuse and Cadbury Taz.

Cadbury stopped production on the Fuse bar back in 2006 and briefly brought it back for a Halloween competition back in 2015.

The bar was made up of milk chocolate, nuts, raisins, crisp cereal and fudge pieces.

Taz Bars, which are also no longer on shelves, used to feature the Looney Tunes character, Taz the Tasmanian devil, and were released alongside a relaunch of the Freddo bars in 1994.

They were also pulled from shelves for a few years, before being relaunched with the Freddo character on the packaging.
