THE Sun’s Green Team campaign received praise last night for encouraging readers to make everyday changes to their habits to halt climate change.

Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Alok Sharma led the backing for our green drive.

He said: “The Sun’s Green Team campaign shows us, we can all play our part in this fight – whether that’s making homes more energy efficient or cutting down on food waste – and that’s why I’m backing it.

“I’m particularly delighted to see The Sun heralding the benefits of insulating our homes – and we have made a whopping £2 billion available to households across England to make it easier and cheaper to do.”

All this week we have been showing how you can save cash and the planet by cutting your waste and making small changes around the house.

We have been asking readers to visit thesun.co.uk/pledge and sign up to pledges like insulating their homes, turning their heating down and eating less meat.

We have teamed up with the groundbreaking global ‘Count Us In’ initiative who aim to urge 1 billion people worldwide to to pledge to make simple changes which will cut global carbon emissions by 20 percence.

If every reader signed up to three pledges that would save 42 million tonnes of carbon….the same amount of emissions of entire UK agriculture industry.’

Last month the government launched the Green Home Grants scheme which offers people on benefits the chase to get free home insulation or solar panels worth up to 10,000.

Meanwhile Brazilian footie star Dani Alves, who last week was announced as a judge on Prince William’s green ‘Earthshot prize’ also threw his weight behind the campaign.

The Earthshot Prize will see £1million given to five green initiatives each year.
