However, all is not what it seems. The freebies are meat-free.

Burger King app users will be able to redeem a free plant-based whopper or vegan royale when ordering through click and collect.

The fast food chain is launching its “whopper swapper” scheme on Thursday, August 25 to celebrate National Burger Day.

You’ll save £4.99 with the offer, but you’ll need to act fast because only 10,000 burgers are on offer.

You need to add and redeem the free burger to a click and collect order on the same day – as you won’t get one after August 25.

The plant-based whopper is meat-free, but as it is cooked on the same broiler as the meat-based whopper it cannot be classified as vegan.

But vegans can take full advantage of a free vegan royale which is usually priced at £4.99.

The offer is available on click and collect orders only.

Burger King app users will be able to redeem their free plant-based whopper or vegan royale by adding the product to their mobile order, choosing a participating restaurant, and proceeding to check out.

There’s no minimum spend required and no further purchase necessary.

One free item is permitted per person as part of the whopper swapper offer.

You won’t get a free burger if you order for delivery or at a kiosk in store.

The offer will be available across 237 participating stores.

You won’t be able to take advantage of the scheme at Burger King motorway service locations, airports train stations and holiday parks.

How else can I get free food?

Burger King has a loyalty scheme where you can collect 10 loyalty points for every £1 spent.

These points can then be redeemed to bag yourself free food on over 20 of the chains’ most popular items.

McDonald’s customers can also collect 100 points for every £1 spent but they’re only able to redeem their points on 15 popular items.

KFC has its own scheme where you can download its app and collect stamps to earn free food.

You have to spend £3 to collect one stamp, or you’ll get two stamps if you spend £15 in a single transaction.

Once you rack up 11 stamps, you’ll find a reward in the “My Rewards” section of the app to claim.
