Suit was developed with France’s elite police tactical unit

Mehler Protection say they’ve developed the ExoM Up-Armoured Exoskeleton with the GIGN, the elite police tactical unit of the National Gendarmerie of France.

The SAS-like GIGN are involved in missions that may include counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and targeting organised crime.

The suit has been designed to enhance survivability by providing high-level ballistic protection, and to cater to the needs of law enforcement, military professionals, and security personnel.

Equipped with a flexible spine, sliding waist belt, and articulated hip, knee, and ankle joints, the kit offers up to 99 per cent ease and range of motion.

It also redistributes up to 70 per cent of the wearer’s tactical load from the shoulders to the ground. The aim is to alleviate physical strain, and mitigates injuries, allowing operators to focus on their duties.

Daniel von Chamier, Group Director of Sales at Mehler Systems, says: “We’ve harnessed our expertise to engineer a product that not only redistributes load effectively but also enhances survivability with top-tier ballistic protection, offering full-body coverage up to VPAM 8.”

The VPAM scale for body armour performance standards means that the ExoM should protect against three armour-piercing incendiary shots fired from around ten metres way.

Mehler say: “The ExoM Exoskeleton revolutionises the experience for military and law enforcement personnel facing extended wear of heavy equipment and demanding high-level ballistic protection.”

Functioning as a passive Exoskeleton, the Exom operates without the need for external power sources.

This feature makes it perfect for extended missions or remote locations, eliminating the necessity for heavy batteries and charging equipment.
