Britishvolt will team up with mining giant Glencore to develop an electric car battery recycling plant in Kent.
Glencore’s site in Northfleet will process all of the scrap materials from a sprawling factory that Britishvolt is setting up in Northumberland.
The plant will also handle full electric car battery packs and portable electronics batteries by the summer of 2023.

Glencore invested in Britishvolt last year and signed a deal to supply it with cobalt. The FTSE 100 miner said the plant would create jobs but did not specify how many.
It is the second big deal that Britishvolt has sealed in a week. On Friday it said it will partner with Lotus to develop its first electric car, to be made in the UK.
In January Britishvolt clinched £100million in Government funding and another £1.7billion from Abrdn and Tritax to set up its £3.8billion factory in Blyth, which it estimates will create 3,000 jobs.
It is due to open in 2024 and will be the UK’s fourth-biggest building.
