British car production is on a ‘road to recovery’ as supply shortages ease.
The number of cars built in the UK hit 69,707 last month, over 8,000 more than the same month a year ago, says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for two in five cars made, their numbers surging 72 per cent to 27,392.

The rise came as chaos in the supply chain eased, with semiconductors, a key component, becoming more available.
Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said the spike in production ‘signposts an industry on the road to recovery’.
Production fell to its lowest level since 1956 last year due to supply issues.
Andy Palmer, former boss of Aston Martin and the ‘godfather of EVs’, said the data ‘highlights the importance of making EVs and batteries in the UK as production continues to rapidly shift to EVs’.
