IF you’re planning some DIY this Easter weekend then you may need to check the opening times of your local store.

B&Q is classed an essential retailer so the store has been allowed to keep its doors open during lockdown.

We explain everything you need to know about the changes.

Is B&Q open over Easter?

Under trading rules, shops over a certain size are required to shut on Easter Sunday and on Christmas Day in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (there are no restrictions in Scotland).

Therefore all the major DIY shops will be shut on Easter Sunday and B&Q are no exception.

It is expected to open during normal times for the rest of the weekend.

The store’s usual opening times can range from 7am-8pm but you’re best off checking with their store finder to see when your closest is open from and how this weekend is affecting it.

Is B&Q doing home delivery?

Home delivery is operating as normal over the Easter break, but coronavirus and a high demand means your order might take a bit longer than usual.

Standard delivery costs £5, but it’s free for orders over £50.

B&Q can usually deliver on a typical Sunday but it is very unlikely they will be completing any orders for Easter Sunday with their stores being closed on the day.

For orders that are larger than parcel, the store offer a named day delivery service but the cost might go up to £10 depending on just how big all your new DIY gear is.

Delivery times for this service range from 3 days to 5 weeks so it’s unlikely you’ll get your order in time for the Easter celebrations anyway.

When are the Easter holidays this year?

This year the spring bank holiday weekend falls earlier than it did in 2020, in the first week of April.

Good Friday is on April 2 making Holy Saturday – which isn’t a bank holiday – April 3.

Easter Sunday falls on April 4 and bank holiday Easter Monday is April 5.

For schools in England, the Easter break starts on Thursday, April 1 and ends on Friday, April 16 this year.

In Wales, schools will be shut for the Easter holidays from Monday, March 29 until Friday, April 9.

To check the exact term dates for your school in Wales and England you can enter your postcode on gov.uk. There are slightly different times in Scotland too.

What are the upcoming bank holiday dates for 2021?

Here is the full list of 2021 bank holidays in England and Wales.

  • Friday, April 2 (Good Friday)
  • Monday, April 5 (Easter Monday)
  • Monday, May 3 (Early May Bank Holiday)
  • Monday, May 31 (Spring Bank Holiday)
  • Monday, August 30 (Summer Bank Holiday)
  • Saturday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
  • Sunday, December 26 (Boxing Day)

Dates in Scotland and Northern Ireland vary.

If you want to recreate the relaxing break of a spa in your own back garden over the Easter weekend then B&Q is selling cheap hot tubs to help you enjoy your bank holiday time off from home.

Check out B&Q’s regular opening times, as the store is one of few allowed to remain open over lockdown.

Non essential retailers can open in two weeks so we explain the full list of essential shops that are still open right now.
