BOOZERS may face beer shortages as delivery drivers threaten to strike.

They say the 1.4 per cent pay rise offered by employers XPO Logistics Drinks is not enough as they failed to get one last year amid the pandemic lockdown.

The 1,000 angry truckers and warehouse staff at 26 sites also say they missed out on up to £10,000 each due to furlough and a lack of overtime.

XPO handles 40 per cent of UK beer deliveries and a strike could seriously hurt supply.

Union Unite called the offer “paltry”.

It is balloting for action and wants 3.9 per cent.

Unite’s Joe Clarke said members “suffered great financial hardship” last year.

He said: “We call upon the company to engage in meaningful negotiations.”

The union also said staff have been put at risk after Covid secure cleaning was stopped to speed up delivery.

XPO told trade journal Morning Advertiser: “We remain open for further conversations to seek agreement.”
