SHOPPERS popping out for a meal deal are paying more for their sarnies.

The cheap food offers have not escaped the cost of living crisis and people are paying more for their lunch.

Boots quietly put up the cost of its midday combo in March, The Telegraph reports.

The price of the meal deal at the high street chemist increased to £3.59, or £4.19 in London.

That’s up from £3.39 and £3.99 previously – so 20p more.

A spokesman for Boots told the publications it was the first time it has increased the price in over five years and that that customers could make savings of up to £4.91.

And Co-op shoppers also face steeper prices for the classic sandwich, snack and drink deal.

Price for the supermarket’s meal deal went up to 7% to £3.75 – before they were £3.50.

They follow Tesco, which hiked meal deal prices for the first time in a decade – unless you have a Clubcard.

The Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme offers points that can be redeemed through money off vouchers in store, or other places like restaurants and holiday parks.

Tesco shoppers with a Clubcard can also save up to 50% off products in store with Clubcard Prices.

Clubcard prices now apply to meal deals, which cost £3 with one or £3.50 without – 50p more.

Sainsbury’s increased its own offer to £3.50 last year, a rise of 50p, and at Morrisons there’s been no recent change and you’ll pay £3.

The saving for any meal deal you get depends on the items you chose.

Each shop has certain items that form part of the offer, and you’ll only ever pay the meal deal price even if the individual prices add up to more.

At Asda the meal deal is not a set price and instead is a 3 for 2 offer where the cheapest item is free, so the price you pay will depend on the items you get.

Food prices have shot up because of global supply chain issues after the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

According to the British Sandwich & Food To Go Association, the price of ingredients, packaging and labour costs have all increased.
