It might be worth investing in a plug-in heater.
Hot water bottles and blankets are great if you’re looking to keep one person warm but if you want to heat up a whole room without putting on the heating, a portable heater is your best bet.
Portable plug-in heaters heat only the rooms you need in your home and they are pretty cheap to run.
You simply plug in the heater and then you can control it with a thermostat so you can set your desired temperature.

Prices for these range from about £15 to around £35 and most will set you back around 14p an hour but it will depend on the size.
B&M has a Blaupunkt plug-in heater which reaches temperatures for 30 degrees for £15.
Dunelm has a gadget which is slightly more expensive at £16 though this item is not available for click and collect so you will need to factor in a £3.95 delivery charge.
Argos has a similar plug-in heater for £25 online and it can run for up to 12 hours.

Keeping warm this winter
There are a few other things you can do to keep warm this winter without breaking the bank.
Get yourself a hot water bottle, they are always great for a cost-free way of keeping warm.
If you’ve got a few pennies to spare consider buying an electric blanket. They are another great way to keep warm and most cost around 3p an hour to run.
Don’t forget about preventative measures, draught-proof your home and seal your windows to stop air coming in.
Prices for draught excluders start from a fiver in most stores but a thick blanket rolled up will work just as well.
Loft insulation is also very important as it can stop heat escaping, therefore slashing your heating bill.
You can buy insulation from all local builder merchants or retailers such as B&Q and Wickes.
