Birmingham is the UK’s top ‘crash for cash’ scam hotspot
Birmingham is the UK’s top ‘crash for cash’ scam hotspot, analysis by the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) has found.
It involves fraudsters inventing or deliberately causing road traffic collisions in a bid to claim compensation.
The IFB analysis of 2.7 million motor insurance claims made across the UK between October 2019 and the end of 2020 identified more than 170,000 which could be fraudulent.
In the top hotspot area of Birmingham, the IFB said it had recently worked with the City of London Police’s Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department to convict a serial fraudster who had spent more than two years tricking innocent drivers.
