The Gmail hack lets you “mute” conversations to stop them clogging up your inbox – and it’s extremely powerful.

It was featured in a list of tips created by Google product engineers.

Kevin Smilak, the Engineering Director for Gmail, branded it the “shhhh” feature.

“Declutter your inbox with Gmail’s mute feature, which pushes the entire conversation to your archive,” Kevin explained.

“And any future conversations on the thread bypass your inbox to be automatically archived as well.”

If you mute a message, it’ll be kept out of your main inbox – even if someone replies.

But you can still search for it manually if you want to find it again.

You can mute emails on your computer as well as on iPhone or Android.

On the computer, go to Gmail and then select the conversation but don’t open it.

Then at the top, click More > Mute.

On Android, iPhone, and iPad, open the Gmail app.

Then tap the sender’s profile image on your email view to select it, and tap More > Mute.

There are some other handy tips that you should try out on Gmail.

For instance, you can create an “ultimate to-do list” right inside Gmail.

Simply open Tasks in your Gmail side panel then drag and drop emails onto it.

This lets you turn email messages into “action items.”

Another great Gmail feature is the sending “grace period.”

This lets you create a cancellation time for emails that you’ve sent so you can stop them from being delivered.
